These designs are apart of my second round of development. I have used a few type faces which i thought might be the most successful and couple colour combinations from my previous variety. Overall these designs do not fulfill my idea of homemade, traditional style. The colours are too modern and give a luxurious feel, on the other hand some of the typography does look good, but possibly too bold and perfect. I am currently deciding how I am going to produce my product, eg. letterpress stamp, screen printing. These processes may give me more of an old, traditional feel to the design.

This is my second round of design ideas, I have started to experiment with typography, using my chosen brand name ‘Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard’. I have also started to look at a number of colour combinations from the website Kuler. I feel my designs are progressing and the various types are sort of what I want to use, although overall, the colours and type choices are not correct. I have been advised to look at a range of books for other typography.

These patterns I found on the internet, they are 50’s and 60’s style, and I am possibly going to use them for the lining for my boxes or tins. I have decided to alter some of the patterns to make them my own, I will change the colouring and trace them, creating something new.

These are vector images of the pattern I took from the internet, i have drawn them myself and changed some of the colours. I feel they are not suitable for the type of pattern I want to use for the lining. Most of the designs are floral, which although is what was used during that time period, it is not something that i want to use for my design, as it is a food product and i want to find something more neutral.

A few random cakes and sweets that have inspired my packaging ideas. The simple, homemade idea that I am exploring. Individually wrapped sweets and cakes, perfect for a food present, extremely popular these days.

After looking at the site Kuler, and searching cakes and traditional, i found a range of colour combination that i thought could work well with my product and brand. Although these work well together and are ‘cupcake’ colours, they are not what I want to use, I plan on revisiting some actual products from the time period I am looking at, and using a pantone colour from them.

These real signs and bread tin are extremely popular in recent years. People love to have a piece of history, and these are things that have stayed in good condition over the years. The style is not what i am aiming for, but it does prove that traditional, eclectic products are extremely fashionable and popular.

A collection of packaging that is more modern, with a traditional, homely style. This is possibly a look that I would consider taking on board and looking into further for my design, although I do want to keep the organic feel and less of a clean finish.

A collection of old fashioned tins, from the 50’s, 60’s and possibly 70’s. The patterns and colours are extremely vibrant and mismatched, a style I would like to have for my final outcome.

greenteacremebrulee: Passion Fruit Macaroons
Interesting use of materials for the packaging. Possibly recycled wood sticks, cut and bend into the correct shape.

I found this image from the Grafic magazine facebook page, they have sourced it from the site above, happy rainbow. I love this novel way of producing bread, perfect for children and adults alike. Although this is not something that I am going to do, it is nice to look at other great ideas that involve food production and packaging.

Cute and simple boxes, possibly ideal for my biscuit packaging. I like the hand-made look, and the use of pattern is subtle yet elegant.
